Alfio Lombardo

Alfio Lombardo received his degree in electrical engineering from the University of Catania, Italy, in 1983. Until 1987, he acted as consultant at CREI, the center of the Politecnico di Milano for research on computer networks, where he was involved in the Software Environment for the design of Distributed Open Systems (SEDOS) and Conformance Testing Service-Wide Area Networks (CTS-WAN) CEC projects. He was the Technical Coordinator of the Formal Description Techniques (FDT) COST 11 TER project from 1986 to 1988. In 1988 he joined the University of Catania where he is full professor of Telematics. There he was the leader of the University of Catania team in the European projects ACTS - DOLMEN (Service Machine Development for an Open Long-term Mobile and Fixed Network Environment) and IST - VESPER (Virtual HomeEnviromnet for Service Personalization and Roaming Users) . He was involved in the Italian Ministry for University and Scientific Research (MIUR) projects FIRB – TANGO, COFIN - EURO and FAMOUS.He is cofounder of a spin off of the University of Catania (www.lightcomm.it).  Presently he is responsible for the “Piano ICT per l’eccellenza del settore High Tech  (ICT – E1)”.
